Today Ruth had a pretty awesome experience. She was able to shadow our family doctor for the day. Our doctor knew Ruth was interested in the medical field and so he invited her to walk through his day with him. She learned all sorts of cool things and our doctor took all sorts of time to explain different illnesses and treatments. Ruth was even able to go to the hospital to check on a patient over there. We are so thankful for how God has worked things out for her to experience several "hands on" things in the medical field. In the words of Ruth, "It was the BEST day ever!" We would appreciate your prayers for her that things would continue to open up for her to pursue nursing next fall.
Twenty one years ago today we said good-bye to our families and boarded a plane for Caracas, Venezuela. Caleb was 2 1/2 and Seth was 14 months old. Vern and I were 24 years old and we were pretty excited for all that God had ahead of us. It's been an amazing journey and we are so thankful for the privilege we had to serve the Lord overseas. This picture was our prayer card picture right before we left.
Just when you thought you had seen everything, you realize you haven't! Next Friday we as a training are having a "No Talent Night". There have been several people making little commercials trying to advertise for the "No Talent Night". This is what Vern and I came up with. Our daughter was our inspiration and coach.

I don't know about you but many mornings I am running around the house wiping down the kitchen counter, while eating bites of breakfast, while asking Titus his spelling words, and then running out the door. I find myself brushing my teeth while cleaning up the bathroom counter, then quickly trying to clean the mirror and always trying to multi-task to get every thing done. While I was scrubbing out the tub today I was thinking that maybe some of YOU have your system down of what works for you. How do you keep up with all the demands of a busy household and get everything done? My kids are definitely a BIG help but if you have found something that works for you, or some time saving tips PLEASE share with me I would love to know what others use as their plan of attack.

Fall is my favorite season. Unfortunately too often it gets a little bit too chilly, too quickly for my thin Venezuelan blood. However, we are enjoying such beautiful fall weather right now. Vern and I have enjoyed getting out on the bike and going for walks while we take in all the beautiful colors of fall. We have a vine on our arbor outside. The first picture was taken on Saturday and the next couple of pictures were only taken two days later. It is just amazing how brilliant the colors are and how quickly they are changing colors.
It seems hard to believe that Ruth is done with her first quarter of school already. This semester she is having double periods of her classes so that she will be done in January. She has been working very hard and is learning a lot. The anatomy course she is taking is proving to be very helpful in preparing her for her studies next year in the medical field. Way to go Ruth, keep up the good work!

Tonight was the first week of Awana for the year. I am very happy that Zachary is joining us as a Cubbie's leader! Glad to have you part of the team Zachary! This year we have 17 Cubbies. We are looking forward to a great year ahead.
For all of you who have watched "The Biggest Loser", don't you sometimes wish you could check up on them a year later? Well, I am still working on eating healthier and exercising more. (I think it is probably some thing I will be working on the rest of my life.) We have really enjoyed our exercise bike and stepper that we have had for over a year now. Caleb and Kristina are now letting us use their elliptical machine. I am pretty excited about another thing to workout on. (I am feeling it already though. as it sure gives me another type of workout.) Our bedroom is slowly being taken over by exercise equipment. (smile) When I wake up and go to bed I am reminded to try to fit exercise into my schedule. It's been over a year and I can't say it ever gets any easier. But I know I have come a long way when I can get excited about exercise equipment. All of you out there that are working on your own season of "The Biggest Loser", don't give up. Keep working towards your goal.
Every fall we get so many flies in the house especially upstairs. Therefore this morning I was trying to put some fly paper up in our bathroom. I started to pull the fly paper apart and about halfway through the little red loop that you hold to pull the paper out, ripped apart from the fly paper. So I thought, "No big deal, I will just use my hands to pull the rest of the fly paper from the roll." All I can say is that was NOT a very wise decision. Fly paper is REALLY sticky. I got the whole fly paper unrolled and then I tried to tape the top part back on so I would somehow be able to hang up this fly paper. My hands were so googy that I decided I needed to wipe my hands off with toilet paper first. (That was another REALLY bad idea.) My hands were so sticky from the fly paper that the toilet paper stuck to my hands and then I could not get the toilet paper off to proceed with my mission. I was able to some how tape the top back onto the fly paper so I could hang it on the ceiling. But as you see I also succeeded in getting the toilet paper from my hands onto the fly paper. I then went to wash off my hands which now had all this sticky stuff on them along with toilet paper. The only thing I have to say about the whole ordeal is I will NEVER touch fly paper again. I could not get that sticky stuff off with bar soap, liquid soap, Comet, or dish suds. I finally found a scrubby pad and after ten minutes of scrubbing and working on it, my hand felt some what normal. I just hope I will start seeing some flies on my fly paper so I can say that "The Attack by the Killer Flypaper" was worth it.

Yesterday Ruth had another hands on experience as she removed my stitches. It probably wasn't quite as much fun as our hospital experience last week.

We Remember..... We are thinking of the many who died on 9/11.
For six years now Ruth has had a date every Tuesday during her lunch break. She has had the privilege of taking flute lessons from an excellent teacher. Her teacher has been so great in teaching her so much and trying to pass on to her the love of music. Last Tuesday during her lunch break she once again started in with her flute lessons. With college ahead of her next fall, this will be her last year of flute lessons. I don't know about her, but we are REALLY going to miss hearing her practice and play the flute. Therefore we are going to enjoy to the fullest, this last year of our flute "Entertainer".
How much flour do you go through in five days? Well, in the last five days I have gone through over 25 pounds of flour. (The flour bag I am holding is about 22 pounds.) How do I use all that flour well I use it in bread, buns, cinnamon buns, pancakes, muffins, coffee cake, pizza, cookies and squares. I have been baking quite a bit more with the boys home. However, we have had a lot of company over and I have sent a lot of baking out to others as well. So if you come over for a visit and you see sprinkles of flour on the floor it is from my "Flour Power".
Today was our kick off Sunday at church for the new school year. This year I am teaching the fourth grade Sunday School class which means I have the same children as last year. I wanted to continue building on what we learned last year and hope to develop deeper relationships with the class. I am looking forward to a great year ahead as some really special kids.

Last night all the first year student and staff ladies got together for a fun and relaxing evening. Kathy did a great job in making her basement very warm and inviting. We played several fun games where we got to learn interesting tidbits of each other. There was a wonderful spread of fruits, veggies, and goodies for us to enjoy. It was an enjoyable evening and we are looking forward to many more special times together.
Most of you know that our daughter Ruth wants to pursue a career in nursing. This semester she is taking an Anatomy and Physiology course. She has been learning a lot of cool things. This morning she was able to have a more hands on experience. I went in to get something cut off my leg. We talked to the doctor and he allowed Ruth to be in there to observe. The doctor was so good as he explained every thing he was doing during the procedure. She was able to learn all sorts of valuble information and went away pretty excited about the whole experience.
