Family Fun

Although Seth and Zachary did not sleep up in the bush with us they came up almost every day for a hot meal. They are both working shift work so their schedules changed a couple of times during jungle camp. However, we did enjoy the time we did get with them when they were up. I thought I would show a few family pictures of our time in the bush that I didn't put on any of the other posts I made for jungle camp.

PACKING UP AND MOVING DOWN

Well, although we have enjoyed our time in the bush it is time to move down. Thursday we packed everything up and started moving down the hill. I spent all morning in the laundry room here on the campus washing blankets, sleeping bags, and clothes. That was a BIG job in itself. Our house is a disaster zone. Hopefully by the end of today we will be able to get everything put away and packed in storage. It has been some long tiring days and it sure has felt good to fall in bed at night.

THANKS RUTH!

Last year one of our jungle camp students made a door handle for our door in jungle camp since we didn't have one. It was quite unique. She gave it to us towards the end of jungle camp last year so we just saved it and put it on this year. On visitors day we got all sorts on interesting comments about it. It almost looks like an elephant head. We REALLY enjoyed having it. We took it off so that the weather won"t get to it over the winter as we want to use it again next year. THANKS RUTH!!! We really enjoying this addition to our home! It is so cool!

Sending out an SOS!

Yesterday we received a message that the mission van had broken down. The van was one of the vehicles taken on the ladies hiking trip. Some one needed to go pick up the van and another person needed to go pick up the ladies that were in the van. Jeff, one of the men working on the maintenance team went with a trailer to pick up the van and I took our van to pick up the ladies. They were hiking a couple hours from here. It is nice how it all worked out that everyone made it home safe and sound and no one was left stranded. And as you can see Jeff is hard at work fixing up the van.

FOR SALE

Have you ever dreamed of having a piece of property with a creek running by it. Well, now is your chance. The Glidewells have a "For Sale" sign up. It might be a bit chilly in the winter with no insulation. And the lack of plumbing might also get you to think twice. But it has been a home where many memories were made this past month. There is also another creek side property available, "The Creek Side Mansion". I am sure the Stephens would give you a good deal on it. But you will need to act fast as tomorrow both houses come down.

George, George, George of the Jungle, WATCH OUT FOR THAT TREE!

One of our students, Andrew, had a VERY strong rope he brought up to jungle camp. He is also knows a lot about trees and can climb them in no time flat. So a couple of weeks ago he hung up a tire swing. We heard many people screaming as they sailed through the air on the tire. I didn't have the guts to go on it but I sure enjoyed watching everyone else take turns on the swing.

Taking the Plunge

On Tuesday afternoon it was quite hot up in the bush. There is a creek running through the camp but it is not really that clean. However, it sure felt like it would be nice to cool off. We have several water barrels sitting outside our bathrooms . (We take buckets of water and flush the toilets with it since there is not running water up there. ) So a plan was formulated and it wasn't hard to find some people who wanted to take the plunge. Those barrels sure worked well in helping cool down some hot jungle campers. The kids had a great time beating the summer time heat. (And we were still able to use the water afterwards for flushing the toilets. )

Tea Time

Like I mentioned before I have really enjoyed getting to know all the children that are up in jungle camp. These four little ladies pass by my house every day on the way to the bathroom. They usually chat with me about life in jungle camp looking through the eyes of a child. The girls had a tea set sent to them in the mail so we decided to have a tea party together. It was so much fun being together with the girls somehow with all the sons I had they never got into having tea parties.

Left Behind

That's right the men and children were left behind during the hike. The men had a camp work time as they were cleaning some things up in preparation of move down day. The guys enjoyed some guy time and dad and children bonding time
.

Taking a Hike

On Tuesday morning the ladies took off for a two day hike up on the Georgian Bay. Although I would have loved to go, after having two knee surgeries, it would be out of the question.Since I did not go on the hike I will just give you some shots of the packing up before the ladies took off.
