Better Late Then Never

It is our family tradition for our kids to pick their birthday meals. But since we were in jungle camp it didn't work out this year on their birthdays. So Friday night Zachary had his belated birthday meal. Then last night Seth had his belated birthday meal. Zachary had a more traditional meat and potato meal while Seth had a favorite Mennonite meal.

The End Of Jungle Camp 2007

To finish off our jungle camp experience our coworkers Peter and Kathy Baker had a hot meal waiting for all of us when we came down the hill after tearing down. What a welcome sight! It was a wonderful meal and GREATLY appreciated by all.
Well, I tried to keep you updated with life in the bush and even though I made MANY posts, it somehow still feels to me like there are a lot of holes. So much happened up there. And besides the outward things you see and fun activities, God was working and continuing to grow and mature us individually and as a group. THANK-YOU for your prayers for all of us during JUNGLE CAMP 2007!

And the Walls Came Tumbling Down

Yesterday morning was the day all the houses were being taken down and our students were moving back down to the lower camp.

Although a good time was had by all it was a much anticipated day. The students were looking forward to nice warm showers, being able to use the phone, check email, and fun things like that.

Also many of our students are going to be moving into student apartments with indoor plumbing.

Therefore, there was a lot of motivation to get the jungle camp houses torn down as quickly as possible. It also was a cloudy day and it threatened to rain throughout the morning. All the houses were torn down and our students moved down by 1:30 p.m. We are thankful that there were no major accidents. Now the campus will have a lot more life for the next week until our students take off for their much needed summer break.

Family Fun

Although Seth and Zachary did not sleep up in the bush with us they came up almost every day for a hot meal. They are both working shift work so their schedules changed a couple of times during jungle camp. However, we did enjoy the time we did get with them when they were up. I thought I would show a few family pictures of our time in the bush that I didn't put on any of the other posts I made for jungle camp.

PACKING UP AND MOVING DOWN

Well, although we have enjoyed our time in the bush it is time to move down. Thursday we packed everything up and started moving down the hill. I spent all morning in the laundry room here on the campus washing blankets, sleeping bags, and clothes. That was a BIG job in itself. Our house is a disaster zone. Hopefully by the end of today we will be able to get everything put away and packed in storage. It has been some long tiring days and it sure has felt good to fall in bed at night.

THANKS RUTH!

Last year one of our jungle camp students made a door handle for our door in jungle camp since we didn't have one. It was quite unique. She gave it to us towards the end of jungle camp last year so we just saved it and put it on this year. On visitors day we got all sorts on interesting comments about it. It almost looks like an elephant head. We REALLY enjoyed having it. We took it off so that the weather won"t get to it over the winter as we want to use it again next year. THANKS RUTH!!! We really enjoying this addition to our home! It is so cool!

Sending out an SOS!

Yesterday we received a message that the mission van had broken down. The van was one of the vehicles taken on the ladies hiking trip. Some one needed to go pick up the van and another person needed to go pick up the ladies that were in the van. Jeff, one of the men working on the maintenance team went with a trailer to pick up the van and I took our van to pick up the ladies. They were hiking a couple hours from here. It is nice how it all worked out that everyone made it home safe and sound and no one was left stranded. And as you can see Jeff is hard at work fixing up the van.
