Titus' Baptism

Yesterday a group of us from our church gathered at the river to witness the baptism of five people. It was a rainy afternoon but that did not hinder the event from moving forward. It was so awesome to hear the testimonies of those being baptized. It was especially meaningful for our family as Vern had the privilege of baptizing Titus. (I have been trying to get the video put on here but it isn't working. For now I will post some pictures and hopefully I can get the video on here yet.)

What's Missing From This Picture?

Our VAN is what is missing from this picture. It is having a total brake job done on it. We knew we would need new brakes but that realization became more real as we were coming back to Canada. We were in Michigan, getting close to the border when our brakes went from bad to REALLY bad. Every time we tried to brake there was a terrible grinding noise and the van did not want to stop. It was a bit scary knowing that we still had three hours before we reached home. We were thankful that there was not much traffic and we tried to use our brakes as little as possible. (When the mechanic looked at our brakes, the front left brake pad had totally disintegrated.) Thank-you Lord for getting us home safely! Unfortunately it is quite costly to get a whole new brake system in. However, it will be VERY nice when we take Zachary back to school to have working brakes.

King of the Grill

Saturday night was our last night in Chicago so we celebrated by having a barbecue at my parents. We had some great tasting ribs! It was a very nice way to end our time together there before we hit the road in the morning. Caleb and Kris along with one of my brother's, Lee and his family joined us. Later, a couple more of my siblings dropped by. It is always so good to connect with family.
The iPod Era

We have not been ones who keep up with the latest technology. However, our daughter thought it was time that changed. And although she had fun shopping for clothes, she also had been saving up for something else. Last week she spoiled her dad and I by buying us an iPod. WOW! We will really enjoy having it as we enjoy listening to music, although Ruth will have to give me a lesson on how to turn it on and use it. (smile)
Shop Till You Drop

Ruth has been putting in a lot of hours this summer working in the deli at our local grocery store. She has been saving her shekels so that she could shop "in the land of the sales". We don't have a mall close by and it seems like you can get some really good deals in the States. So a highlight for Ruth last week was being able to shop and get some good deals. And being the great sister that she is, (and knowing her brothers are poor college students) she bought them a few things as well.

Magic Waters

Today my sister and her husband took our kids and two of my siblings to a water park called Magic Waters. It has been many years since we have taken the kids to a water park so they were pretty excited about going. Their Aunt Faith and Uncle Daniel are pretty special people who are a lot of fun to be with. So it was a real treat for the kids and it sounds like they had a pretty awesome time.

Hitting the Green

Vern is not that much of a golfer but he had wanted to go golfing at least once with Zachary and Seth during their summer break. Well, the clock is ticking and the boys will soon be back to school. So Vern went out early this morning to go golfing with Zachary and my brother Charles. Unfortunately Seth was not here but hopefully Seth and Vern will be able to get in their "golfing date" yet before Seth heads back to school.
Projects

Vern and my dad have been working on some projects. The two major ones have been redoing a wall by taking the old paneling off and putting new dry wall and paneling on. Now they are working on pulling off the old tile and putting new tile on the kitchen floor. (Zachary and Charles also helped with the project. Way to go guys!) If all goes well they will then be working on pulling up some old carpet and putting new carpeting down. It is a good thing my parents have air conditioning as it is in the 90's today so at least they can work in a little cooler temperatures. (smile)
