Celebrating Ruth's Birthday

It has been a neat time in our lives to have our children all living in the same area. Since Ruth will be heading off to college in the fall we know this could be the last birthday Ruth celebrates with us together as
a family for awhile. It is our family tradition to let the birthday person pick a special meal for their birthday celebration. Since Vern and Ruth's favorite meal is the same, and we just had that last week Ruth picked "shish kabobs". We all love them but I have actually never made them before. I spent some time looking for marinates on the internet of shish kabobs. I settled on five different ones. I made two different chicken shish kabobs, two different beef ones, and then a shrimp option as well. It took a bit of prep time the day before as a couple of the kids helped me cut up the meat and get it soaking over night. Then it also took several hours cutting on veggies and loading everything of the wooden skewers. (Since everyone in the family likes different types of veggies I tired to load them in a way so that there were all sorts of options.) Vern did a GREAT job in grilling them all as it was VERY cold outside standing by the grill. However, I think we all thought that the meal was AMAZING! The Shish Kabobs were so tasty. We were all happy that Ruth picked this meal as it was fun to venture out and do some thing new. It is definitely some thing we will have to do again. We all enjoyed the left overs for lunch, YUM! (We actually had a cheese cake and an angel food cake since Ruth wanted cheese cake but some people in the family don't like cheese cake.) It was a nice evening, honoring Ruth's on her special day. Next month it is Caleb's turn!

Happy 18th Birthday Ruth!

One of the greatest joys and blessing Vern and I have had is to be parents. Eighteen years ago another blessings was added to our family. God gave us a precious baby girl. Our family would never be the same again. Ruth has added so much life and laughter into our family. She has a love for life and people. (As I look back over this past eighteen years it seems to have passed before us in a blink of an eye. ) Happy 18th Birthday Ruth! You have grown to be such a beautiful young lady. We are excited about all that God has ahead of you. We hope you have an awesome day!

A Day To Celebrate

Yesterday we enjoyed a nice day celebrating Ruth's birthday. In the later morning I took Ruth out for a little surprise which was a manicure. She always has very nice nails so I knew she would enjoy a bit of pampering. When we arrived home Vern had a wonderful birthday meal prepared for Ruth. After our lunch I started working on preparing things for the evening. I had invited a bunch of ladies over to help us celebrate Ruth's special day. Once again Vern was in the kitchen doing a great job. As the ladies were arriving Vern was working on putting a bunch of quesadillas together. (yum) We had a fun time talking, laughing, and then watching a movie together. It's hard to believe that we will only have one more birthday to celebrate with our daughter before she is off to college.

Happy Birthday Ruth

17 years ago today the Lord blessed our family with another precious little baby. Unlike Vern who was born on a chilly winter day in January, Ruth was born on a very hot sunny day. That's because she was born in Venezuela. For some reason there were quite a few medical personnel in the the delivery room. They all knew we had three little boys at home so they were all excited for us when our little baby came out and it was announced, "Una Nina". I think I can speak for the whole family in saying how much we have enjoyed having a daughter and our sons having a sister. She has added so much life and laughter into our home. She is a very loving and giving person always wanting to show people they are special. Ruth we love you very much and we feel so blessed that God chose us to give this amazing daughter to. Keep walking with Him and shining His love to those around you. Have a wonderful birthday!
