Yesterday we celebrated Canada Day. We decided to enjoy a nice relaxing day at home with family. We started off the day with a nice brunch and for supper we had a great fajita meal. I was a little disappointed at what the dollar store had to offer for decorations but never the less we did get some decorations up. Right before we ate supper we stood and sang "O' Canada". With having some warm days here we had the patio door open. Therefore when we sang the national anthem the neighbors in the senior complex stood up and sang along with us. After supper we gathered around the piano while Vern's sister played and we sang a few Canada songs. We sang O' Canada, God Save the Queen, The Red River Valley, and the Canadian version of: This Land is You Land. We watched a movie and then headed downtown to the lake for some fireworks. It was a nice Canada Day. What a privilege to live in a free country!

Fun, Food, Fellowship, and Fireworks

I never got to finish my posting on Canada Day. We did finish off the day with a potluck. The highlight of that being that we staff, provided ice cream and strawberries for everyone. Since our students haven't had any ice cream in over two weeks it was a real treat. Then later at 10:00 p.m. we all up in an open section for some fireworks. It was a very fun filled day. It was my first "Canada Day" as a Canadian citizen and the day turned out perfect with LOTS of fun memories made with our friends and family.

GO TEAM GO!!!!

After the boat races we all gathered together to play some group games. Everyone was broken up into four teams. The first game we played was where each team only had three matches and they had to start a fire and burn a string. The first team to burn their string won. We had to find material in the bush and could not use any wood that was already cut.

Another game we played was sawing and chopping wood. All four teams were so close on their time, and I am happy to sy no one lost any fingers or toes, or go hurt in any way.

The kids had fun playing a game where they ran with sponges filled with water and had to fill pop bottles that were on a man's head. The men go plenty wet on this game but the kids sure had a good time.

This game was water balloon volley ball. I have never played it before but it was a lot of fun. You had a water balloon that was in a sheet and your team had to volley it over the net and the other team had to catch it in their sheet. It was amazing that not too many people got wet.
Canada Day Celebration - Let the Races Begin

Yesterday we celebrated "Canada Day". We started off the afternoon with a boating competition. All the children made boats. They were judged for originality and then we have a boat race to see which one was going to win for speed. The kids all did such a great job on their boats. The kids had a great time racing their boats and us adults had a good time cheering them on.
